Elderbob Brannan got me unexpectedly involved in a demo of Dimdim web meeting software today – or as they put it on their web page:
“Dimdim is the Open Source web conferencing company. With Dimdim you can show Presentations, Applications and Desktops to any other person over the internet. You can chat, show your webcam and talk with others in the meeting.”
Sundar from Dimdim took about 6 of us through the different applications of this interesting new social software. If you have used Skype then you have a bit of an idea of what Dimdim does, what is different is that you can share presentation software like Moodle. Sundar explained that in the near future everyone in the session will be able to annotate on the presentation. There are video capabilities also. I have been using Marratech software to participate in an online class and this is similar without the multiple video feeds Marratech offers – but dimdim is FREE. Go to their site and check it out – I’ve only barely explained all it can do.
